What actually happened?
To be more specific, Trenton Fire Department mechanic Harris Kohen and Acting Battalion Chief Cliff Willever came to Tuckerton to pick up a repaired pumper for their city. Kohen looked across the street and saw smoke coming from 317 East Main Street.
Chief Willever took an extinguisher over while Kohen started their pumper and drove across the street. Meanwhile, Tuckerton Police had seen the smoke while passing by and helped knock down the fire with their extinguisher.
Mulch, vegetation and some lattice trim were burning at the porch. A line was stretched from Trenton's engine to wet down the area, and Tuckerton Fire Department pumpers arrived to help with overhaul. We would like to thank Harris Kohen and Acting Battalion Chief Cliff Willever for their quick thinking and action.
Chief Willever's knows the area as his mother has a summеr home in Tuckerton Beach.
Mulch, vegetation and lattice trim was burning in the front of the building, and Willever stretched a hose to wet dоwn the area.
We would like to thank Harris Kohen and Acting Battalion Chief Cliff Willever for their quick thinking and action," the Tuckerton Fire Department said in the Facebook post.
Courage and Professionalism When Needed
Fireman is one of the most underestimated professions when you really think about it. They are saving lives, building and materials on daily basis and they are maybe underpaid. In this situation the Trenton Fire Department mechanic and pumper surely didn’t need to act in Tuckerton. Instead they could’ve notified the Tuckerton Fire Department to do the job. But, being real pros, and human before everything, they acted right away, because later it would’ve been too late.
Mutual aid between Trenton and Tuckerton
We liked one of the comments on the Facebook page who talked about mutual help. “Great example of mutual aid. Tuckerton Fire Department assisted Trenton during their water crisis in 1976, participating in a water relay from Princeton to Trenton”, which reminded the older population about this unpleasant event. This must continue in the future as it will only lead to great improvement in our society.
Thoughts – Courage and professionalism
Why do some people act with great courage and care about other people, where others just don’t care? I know that many people would’ve just pass through this situation and wouldn’t bother interfering or helping right away. While maybe this was firemen’ job, I think that the human in them acted more than their professional obligations. Whatever the motive was, we want to thank them again for their actions! Harris Kohen and Cliff Willever you are great firemen!
