Hard Rock Atlantic City has its license in hand and is set to open June 28 in the former Trump Taj Mahal, bringing 3,500 new jobs to the area. The entertainment company told reporters they are hoping to fill at least 500 more positions before opening day.
Hard Rock International partnered with local investors to self-finance Hard Rock Atlantic City, so the casino will open its doors this summer with zero debt.
The New Jersey casino license came just in the nick of time, ensuring gambling and other games will be a part of the grand-opening festivities. The casino will boast 2,100 slot machines and 130 table games. The hotel and casino, pending the Supreme Court’s decision, will also offer sports betting.
Executives told the media the former Taj Mahal building has been completely renovated, with all rooms and restaurants gutted and then redesigned. The Etess Arena concert venue has been renamed the Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena, and was expanded to hold 7,000 people.
Hard Rock Atlantic City completely renovated the former Trump Taj Mahal in preparation for opening day, bringing in retail partners such as Bernie Robbins Jewelers, which is a local jewelry store.
The new casino will also host numerous concerts and other entertainment, with acts such as Carrie Underwood, Pitbull, Florida Georgia Line, Toby Keith, and Third Eye Blind. Tickets to 60 upcoming shows went on sale last Friday.
Hard Rock Atlantic City reportedly has a $30 million entertainment budget for its first year, so visitors to The Boardwalk will catch more than 300 nights of live shows by next summer.
Last week, workers began installing the 8-foot-tall gold "Hard Rock Hotel and Casino" letters. The letters are being lifted 120 feet in the air by a crane.
Similarly, Ocean Resort Casino recently confirmed rumors that it will also be opening on June 28. The casino told media outlets it’s in the process of opening, but it hasn’t yet secured its casino license.
Ocean Resort will be housed in the former Revel casino and will be connected to the Atlantic City Boardwalk. A spokesperson for the resort said it plans to hire anywhere from 2,500 to 3,000 people. Ocean Resort will span 6.4-million-square-feet.
“All of the signs point to Ocean Resort moving ahead and readying the property for its opening at the end of June,” an article on njgamblingsites.com reads. “Officials have been sharing plans including partnerships with Hyatt, Mark Wahlberg, and Topgolf Swing Suites.”
The resort also installed new carpeting and is reportedly renovating its casino floor to make it easier for guests to navigate.
Room reservations are already being accepted and if the license isn’t secured at the next Casino Control Commission, which is scheduled for June 6, the resort will likely still open, just without the casino, at first.
According to the Washington Post, Revel closed in September 2014 and was one of five Atlantic City casinos to go out of business since 2014. The former Trump Taj Mahal is included in that group of closings, which closed in October of 2016.
The new resort will boast a 138,000-square-foot luxury casino, five swimming pools, and a sun deck with cabanas. There will be 90,000 square-feet of outdoor event space, and it is the tallest building in Atlantic City, with 60 stories and standing 710 feet.
