Jackson Singer
Gianna Isabella, who is only 15 years old, was selected to go to Hollywood on a recent episode of the show. According to her mother, Isabella is dedicated to her career as a singer-songwriter, saying that when all of her friends were out socializing and going to parties, Isabella spent her time at home, singing and writing songs.
In the Genes
Singing and songwriting is in Isabella’s genes. Her mother is Brenda K. Starr, an 80s pop star whose song “I Still Believe” reached #13 on American charts. Starr landed a role in the hip-hop film, “Beat Street,” portraying herself as a singer. This led to a recording contract with Mirage Records and her first single, “Pickin’ Up the Pieces” became a sensation in local clubs. It peaked at #9 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play Charts. In 1988, Starr’s song “Sweet Surrender” was featured in the film “Licensed to Drive” and her song “Sata” appeared in the film “Lambada.” During the late 1980s, Mariah Carey sang backup for Starr and it was Starr who helped her secure a recording contract by giving Tommy Mottola, then a Columbia Records executive, a demo tape. This led to the demise of Starr’s career at Sony, although, in 1998, Carey covered Starr’s song, “I Still Believe” and it peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100. In order to rejuvenate her career, Starr learned Spanish and reinvented herself as a Salsa/Tropical and Latin pop artist.
American Idol Process
Isabella will now head to Hollywood where she will join a group of other hopefuls in order to put together a song and dance performance for the judges. If she is successful in that round, she may have to perform individually depending on the rules for the current season. The show sometimes changes requirements during Hollywood week and it is unclear yet what will be required. If Isabella is successful after the individual performance, she will move on to the live shows.
American Idol has been a popular singing competition show since its first year when Kelly Clarkson was crowned the winner. Over the years, many stars have emerged from the competition, including Carrie Underwood, Chris Daughtry, Jennifer Hudson, Catherine McVee and more. Taxi and Car Service is proud of Isabella, a Jackson native, for displaying talent that sent her to Hollywood when she performed in front of judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick, Jr. If you are looking for a safe, reliable way to get to and from an event, contact Exclusive Taxi and Car Service today online or at 732-350-8294.
