The Coaster
Riders begin their experience with a straight up 12-story, 90-degree hill before flipping head over heels at least six times during their 4-D ride. Along the way, they will experience leaps, dives and unexpected drops as they travel along a horizontal plane, seated in wing seats with no tracks above or below them. Riders will see nothing but the sky, the ground and a churning lake around them. The coaster is designed with a massive, imposing, floating and twisting I-box track frame with onboard magnetic technology. The technology provides smooth free-fly flips so that riders feel weightless as they soar outside the confines of traditional tracks. The vehicles seat eight and there are a total of five vehicles on the coaster. Riders sit facing each other as they tumble throughout the ride and two “raven” drops give the sensation of free-falling.
The Joker
Six Flags Great Adventure decided to change the name of the coaster in order to pay homage to Batman’s arch nemesis, The Joker, because of the gravity defying somersaults and free-falls that riders will experience. Anyone who has read the comics or watched the movies understands that The Joker has a warped sense of humor and could easily have created a coaster as unique, exciting and “spinsane” as the one that will open at Six Flags Great Adventure in the spring of 2016.
Six Flags Great Adventure
The Joker joins award-winning roller coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure that include Batman, Bizarro, El Toro, Green Lantern, Kingda Ka and Nitro. Nitro has been rated the third best steel coaster in the world while El Toro was voted the world’s best roller coaster by The Golden Ticket Awards in 2012. In 2015, Kingda Da was the tallest roller coaster in the world and the coaster is connected to the Zumanjar Drop of Doom which is the world’s tallest drop ride. Great Adventure opened in 1974 under the direction of Warner LeRoy, becoming a Six Flags park in 1977. It contains 11 themed areas, three for small children and 14 world-renowned roller coasters with the addition of The Joker.
