June was little hectic and exciting in Toms River. There were several events, related and non-related that influenced and buzzed around the town. Some were nice to hear and experience, others were horrifying and shocking. However, it was an interesting month.
National Anthem Played on the Boardwalk in Seaside Heights
It started with a simple Facebook post, a resident suggesting that it would be nice to hear the national anthem played on the boardwalk in Seaside Heights.
What started as a simple post took off, and it wasn't long before Seaside Heights officials were telling commenters that yes, the borough would be playing "The Star-Spangled Banner" over the speakers starting right before the Fourth of July.
It was one of several headlines on the Patch in Toms River during June.
Other important events
Other highlights included the arrest of a Toms River man who had been sought after authorities said his van was seen leaving the scene of an arson fire in Beachwood. The man was caught after he was arrested at Community Medical Center on charges he assaulted a nurse, authorities said.
Bon Jovi Was In Toms River
There also was the story of the long-time Jon Bon Jovi fan who received the surprise of her life, when the singer joined the woman and her family for dinner at the JBJ Soul Kitchen. The look of surprise on her face as Bon Jovi snuck up behind the woman, who is battling stage 4 cancer, is priceless. Bon Jovi you are a good man!
The surprise was a dream come true for the woman and her daughters, who arranged the surprise with the help of Bon Jovi's staff.
It was harsh too
There were tons of crimes as well. Some of them were pretty scary. For example, a woman was charged with DUI after downtown Toms River crash. She had a child in the car with her; the crash knocked out power and snarled downtown traffic, police said.
On the other hand a Toms River company distributed 20,000 unauthorized prescription blanks In Toms River. The company, which was not following protocols, had its license to print the blanks rejected.
