It was actually a pet
It was awkward that this kind of alligator, especially with that size, to appear at the campground. Later, after small investigation, the Jackson police Capt. Steven Laskiewicz said that the authorities believe a resident in the area had it as a pet and released it into the lake once it grew too big. American alligators can grow up to 11-feet in length.
Additional Info About the Alligator and Its Species
Different sources started different investigations. So, it was later found that according to National Geographic, that species of alligator was once deemed endangered but now has a population of more than 1 million. American alligators are usually found in Florida and Louisiana, but not in the Jersey Shore.
Jackson police officers who responded to the call were assisted by Animal Control Officer.
The gator is now in the hands of a licensed exotic reptile handler, who is working with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Division of Fish & Wildlife to find out where it will go next.
Thoughts?
Who is responsible for this? Should’ve the authorities have reacted even faster? Should’ve they found the alligator earlier then he started walking around in campground and causing danger. Or maybe the irresponsible owner of the gator should be found and punished because of the reckless behavior? Let us know in the comments bellow. We think that it’s that they're assuming it's a resident when someone from anywhere USA could have dropped it off there. We need to be more careful!
