Although the escape was announced as scary, he actually didn’t do anything harmful.
Arthur Buckel was taken into custody without incident at milemarker 76.5 northbound on the Garden State Parkway, almost directly across from the Forked River rest area in Berkeley Township where he was reportedly spotted Sunday night.
How they’ve captured him
Reportedly a driver saw a person in the woods along the northbound side of the GSP, and one of the detectives who was already stationed in that area to keep an eye out for Buckel -- responded to the location and held Buckel at gunpoint. He was taken into custody without resistance and later he was transferred to state custody. Arthur Buckel has since been taken to a secure facility.
The police checked the surveillance cameras and saw the prisoner in the area. But Buckel had indicated a desire to turn himself in, after all the drama we guess and had been making arrangements through family and the state police involving the rest area on the Parkway, but walked off prior to the arrival of the police personnel.
Upon being notified of the search that was underway, Lacey and Berkeley police arranged search efforts and additional officers to patrol areas along the Parkway. Like in the movies, they searched into the woods, using dogs, thermal imaging cameras and helicopters. The dogs led them into the woods but then "lost the trail." Finally, he was found at a CVS Pharmacy in Barnegat Township.
Thoughts
Was this a manhunt long and unsuccessful? Should have they arrested him and found him sooner before he did some harm? It’s obvious that he was not a harsh or dangerous criminal, because he was serving a three-year prison term for aggravated assault, drug possession and burglary. But, what if he was some psycho killer or something similar? The police might have been more organized and must’ve used better technology to capture the escaped prisoner faster. Ocean City was in panic and it was maybe unneeded and should’ve ended much faster! Let us know your thoughts below.
