FanNation, an event similar to Comic-Con will arrive at the Ocean County Library on Saturday, November 21 from 10 AM until 3 PM. The event will offer more than 20 panels, workshops, presentations and the opportunity for fans to meet. Events like Comic-Con are designed to create awareness of and appreciation for comics along with other similar art forms. Through the presentation of conventions and events, the organizations celebrate historic and ongoing contributions made to society by comics to art and culture. Similar events are held throughout the world in an effort to bring awareness to the various art forms.
Michele Knotz
Those who attend the event will be able to meet voice actor, Michele Knotz. Michele is the voice of “Jessie” in Pokemon as well as the voice of “Hajime Yagi” in the World of Narue. She has also voiced characters in To Heart, The Third, Genshiken, Kujibiki Unbalance, Ikki Tousen, Queen’s Blade and many more animated features. In 2003, Michele won the 2003 Anime Idol voice acting contest held at the Big Apple Anime Fest convention in New York. In addition to Jessie, she has been the voice of “May” and “Nurse Joy” in Pokemon.
Star Trek, Dr. Who and More
The USS Challenger will present a panel on Star Trek: The Next Film in the Macini Hall at 10 AM that day while a Dr. Who parody event will take place at the Bishop Building at 6:30 PM the night before FanNation. The Dr. Who parody will include genre-related snacks and both that event as well as the Star Trek event are free.
Other Events
In addition to meeting Michele, attendees at FanNation will be able to participate in an International Games Day Competition while also meeting artists and creators of original comics. Because many attendees will dress as their favorite characters from anime, movies, comic books or other genres, there will also be a parade and cosplay contest. There will be many attendees to represent Star Trek, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Fantasy, Pirates and gaming. There will also be a Soul Eater Ask a Character panel with members of the Death Weapon Meister Academy.
The event will be held at the library, located at 101 Washington Street in Toms River. However, instead of driving to the event, searching for a parking space and struggling to get all your cosplay weapons to the event, consider renting a limousine or town car to arrive at the event in style. Let your driver worry about traffic and parking while you relax in the back with your fellow geeks. There is ample room for battle axes, swords and armor as well as the full, hoop skirts worn by Disney princesses and other characters. If you are planning to attend FanNation in Toms River, consider choosing a limousine or town car so that you and your friends, whether in costume or not, can arrive in comic book style.
