Arrest Details
According to police, Rea Broussard, 52, of Burnt Tavern Road, was stopped just after two in the afternoon on January 12 under suspicion of driving while intoxicated. After she was stopped, Broussard provided police with false information, allegedly due to the fact that her driver’s license was suspended. She had been convicted at least twice of driving under the influence. No information was available on her previous convictions.
New Jersey Drunk Driving Statistics
According to the Centers for Disease Control, between 2003 and 2012, there were 1,816 people killed as a result of an impaired driver, and the majority of those killed were between the ages of 21 and 34. In New Jersey, almost two percent of those surveyed reported that they have driven after they have had too much to drink, which is around the same as the rest of the United States. In New Jersey, when someone drives on a license that was suspended due to a DUI conviction, special sentencing laws apply. Broussard could face fines of $1,500 and will face an extension of her suspension for as much as two additional years. She will also be sentenced to at least ten or up to 90 days in jail. Broussard’s motor vehicle registration privileges will also be suspended.
Importance of a Designated Driver
If you are planning to enjoy a few drinks at a friend’s house or a local establishment, it is important to arrange for a designated driver. A designated driver should drink no alcohol and should remain in possession of the car keys at all times. If a friend agrees to be the designated driver, purchase their dinner or buy them non-alcoholic drinks for the night. If you spend leisure time with a regular group of people, each of you should take turns being the designated driver. It is important to note that the designated driver should not be the “least drunk” and it is not acceptable for the designated driver to drink even one alcoholic drink.
